Editor & Writer

About Me
Hi, I’m Sara. I’m a writer and editor. I’ve always been a fan of writing and noticed my knack for it in elementary school when my essays always turned out a few pages longer than my classmates. My favorite book of all time is The Secret Garden, and I attribute my adventurous spirit to that story. I’ve spent the past 11 years working in various youth programming and development capacities and that work has taken me around the country as a camp counselor, program coordinator, and other outdoor education positions.
In 2011, I graduated from Mercyhurst University with a BA in English, a concentration in Creative Writing, and a minor in Photography. Afterwards, I joined AmeriCorps and served with a wonderful Bookmobile organization in Northern Vermont for a year. During my term I picked up grant writing, supported fundraising efforts, created marketing and event promotions, and acquired tons of project management skills. Soon after my service year, I realized how much I wasn’t writing anymore. I missed my college days with assignments and deadlines and yearned to do something more creative. So, I applied to graduate school to re-find that spark. In 2017, I graduated from Chatham University with an MFA in Creative Writing and concentrations in travel writing, nature writing, and publishing. My thesis focused on LGBTQ+ Young Adult Fiction and I’m now well versed in the fascinating history of the genre.
Since graduation, I’ve traveled around the country working more seasonal jobs in outdoor education, while continuing to write and expand my thesis. Notable posts include the Trip and Travel Director for a Colorado summer camp and 2 winters as a Certified Ski Instructor.
Currently, I’m living outside of Boston working on various writing projects and editing my thesis-now-turned-manuscript. I continue to play in the outdoors whenever I can, and completed a thru-hike of The Long Trail this past summer.
