Why hire an editor?
Writers need editors. Writers put so much of themselves into their work that it’s hard to pull themselves away and recognize any flaws. I know. I’m a writer and had a rough time giving my manuscript away to someone else to read. I had an even rougher time taking the critiques to heart because I couldn’t bear to change anything. But then I did, and I think my novel is better than it was before.
Editors can catch spelling and grammar errors that writers tend to skip over. Editors can help with word choice to give a clearer picture of a scene or character description. They can help with dialogue to give a character a more realistic voice. Editors can help with plot holes, reader confusion, improve pacing, and tighten the structure of the story.

My background is mainly in tutoring and academia, meaning I’ve worked with a lot of students who just want a well written paper. They are not necessarily interested in all the specific grammar rules of why English is the way that it is (although I’m more than happy to explain anything in detail). My style is a straightforward approach with clearly marked edits and further explanation noted in the margins if needed. I can suggest resources to generate and spark ideas, and I consider the big picture and structure of the work without disrupting your individual voice.
